I am thrilled to find that both CC Cookie and Willopee have won their sections in the Taiwan Teddy Bear Show and Creative Design Awards 2011!!!

What makes this competition so special is that the pieces are sent over and judged 'hands on' by five international judges at the show and receive votes via online voting...a great mix and way to combine the Internet with a Teddy Bear Show!

Thanks to all those who put the time and effort into this competition each year! I hope to see lots of wonderful, exciting entries again next!!

Well this should bring a smile to Brian's dial on Sunday....Elkie's place mat she made for him at Pre-school for fathers day!! It is a piccie of Dad sleeping on the bed and as you can see it says he falls asleep on the chair...I cracked up laughing when I saw this as kids just do what they see and Brian works in a job where he is up at 4am and off to work at 5.15am and then he is physically all go for the next 8-10 hours so when Elkie gets home his eyes are rightfully drooping and the head is nodding no matter how much he wants to stay awake to play it is a struggle on most days!! What a wonderful Dad he is to try and do what he does at the young age of 53....sssshhhhhh !! Don't tell him I gave away his age!!!!

We loves him very much!!!! So to all those wonderful Dad's out there...HAPPY FATHERS DAY GUYS!!!

Oh and I just had to show you my mothers day pic Elkie did for me! It is a pic of Me on the left making a teddy bear ( I am holding it in the pic) and Elkie on the right watching. Next to her on the left is a table with my felting foam on it....I JUST ADORE IT!!!!!

'Willopee' My First Little Orangutan!

'Willopee' is a 13 1/2 inch OOAK Lombard Bears Orangutan.....My first little orangutan!! He is made from a gorgeous rusty coloured mohair with a dark brown back and has beautiful soulful blue glass eyes from the UK. His feet , hands and inner ears are a lovely soft chocolate suede which I have hand stitched to make fingers and toes. 'Willopee's' face is sculpted needle felt which I have hand shaded with inks to give him all his character. He has my signature 9-way jointing system so he sits like an ape and he is filled with wool then weighted with steel shot so he feels like a real little creature.

A happy trekker with her ducky who dropped down between some rocks up the top and we had to organise an emergency rescue!!!

Brian and I did our darndest to hold up balancing rock ;)

What do you do when your mind in chogged up...........head for the sky!!! We headed for a place called Castle Rock last weekend and had a fabulous day!!! Brian made it to the top onto the lookout round Castle Rock, Elkie and I waited at the bottom of the steps up to it as it was a bit scarey for Elkie and then we headed for the easy lookout on the other side. I fabulous spot and an amazing view to reward yourself with after a lovely bushwalk up!! That's living I say :)

On the creations front....a new chimp friend in evolving and set to enter the world soon :)

New Bear 'Brody' Available Now!!

I am excited to say that I have a new bear available called 'Brody'. He is the first in a smaller size with a sculpted needle felt face just making 9 1/2 inches. 'Brody' is made from the last piece of my favorite hand dyed mohair in beautiful mulled wine colors and has gorgeous baby blue glass eyes! He is 9 way jointed and had pulled suede paws. I have weighted him with steel shot to give him the feel of a real little critter!

Well it was a busy weekend!! The ACDA's and twin cousins down from Perth to play... AND CHICKIES FOR A WEEKEND STAY!!!!!!!

Elkie had a ball this last long weekend. Their class has a fabulous teacher who hatches chickies out in the room each year and then the kids get to take them home over night if they would like!!

The first night she was awake at 3am asking if it was time to get up and look after the chickies. I said it was still night and we had to go back to sleep but we decided it best to get up and check on the little cuties anyway.....................

A Fabulous Swap with Julia from JuNa Art Dolls!!

Way back in December Julia and I agreed to do a swap as we loved each others work. Elkie helped me choose which of Julia's gorgeous dolls was to be swapped for a bear I had made that Julia had fallen in love with, Sebastion. It didn't take Elkie long to choose Julia's fabulous ' Christmas Dreamer' doll. We both have the same taste....FANTASTIC!!!!

Little did we know that the post was going to be very slow....weeks and weeks of patient waiting, hoping he was not lost or broken and fainally last week he arrived!!!

I was absolutely THRILLED when I opened the box. I knew Elkie was going to be soooo excited when she got home from school so I told her that once she was changed that there was a surprise in the lounge room.

These are the pics I got as she yelled out to tell me what she had found!!! I think they say it all!!!

Thank you so much Julia!!! We are Thrilled to bits!!! Elkie loves the gifts you put in just for her and I LOVE your fabulous doll!!!

Well I have had this Rabbit's head felted for about a year and it has taken me that long to get it worked out in my mind how on earth I was going to shade the notoriously tricky white felt!!!

Whilst staying with mum while she recovered from her double knee replacement I decided to just stop thinking and plunge in at the deep end!!! I am happy to say that I am really happy with how 'Wendall' has come to life!!! I have still to finish off a couple of bits and his coat , which I found some gorgeous fabric for in my stash from about 15 years ago, then he will be ready for a tea party I would say :)

Elkie was Very Happy after Finding What Santa Left Her!!!!

Well, we had a wonderful Christmas and Elkie was really excited to find a water slide from Santa on the lawn in the morning!!!! I think he shopped smart at the sales a few months ago!!!!

Lots of fun, good food and chatter was had by all! Everyone admired my Christmas swap Bunny Paulius from Ina and adored Elkies surprise bunny Saulele!!!

There is nothing so exciting as watching a child run out to see what Santa had left on the lawn other than being that child!!! I hope you all had a fabulous childlike chrissy!!

A Special Parcel Arrived Today!!!

My hubby rang to say he had a parcel from Ina of 'Bears and Roses ' for Elkie!!!!

I had to wait all day to see what was in the box.....Elkie was soooo excited just to get a parcel and then when she opened it she was so very very happy and just loved the bunny 'Saulele' that Ina made for her as a present!!! I too got a surprise to find a beautiful handmade brooch and Chocolate!!

It was Elkie's last day at Kindy and they had a fabulous last week....a ride on a Harley motorbike, a bouncy castle and a visit from Santa Claus...then to top it off a wonderful present all the way from Lithuania!!!

Thank you so much Ina!!!! I too have something on the way for you and Polina!!!

Meet 'Sir Percival' my Forest Dwelling Show Clown! He is part of 'Lucinda's' traveling show who perform for all the pond and forest dwellers at all the fresh water ponds around the world (visit my website to see their story!)

He is made from a glorious banana yellow tipped banana brown mohair and has hand stitched dark brown suede paws. His eyes are an amazing vibrant orange/gold and he has a sculpted needle felt face which I have hand shaded to create this fabulous character. He has my signature 9-way jointing system for lots of fun posing and is weighted to feel like a real critter!!!

I know I know I Know!!! This is not exactly keeping things tame ... but boy do I love creating these fabulous, 'over the top' creatures!!!!!! He is my favourite!!!! :):):)

I was really happy to find out that my entry into the pattern challenge, Kim Russells beautiful 'Murphy' pattern, won her section!!!! I am still getting a grip on the smaller size ( she is about 7 inches...small for me) so was Thrilled!!! Thanks to Kim and Jenni from the Teddy Tree in Perth for everything!!!!xx

The week started with Lucinda deciding that she was coming to Perth too!!!

I had been thinking it would be best if she stayed home as I was not sure I would have enough room for her but she was having none of that!!! While I was trying to keep the Chimps Possums and Bears under hand she nipped out and parked herself in the car and wouldn't budge!!! I gave up and off we went on our road trip to perth!!

Luckily for Lucinda I ended up with enough room for her to go to the show....and put on a show she sure did!!!

She had a wonderful time entertaining the crowds at the show....many huge smiles and wonderful positive comments came her way....she was in her element!!!! Lucinda thanks all the Perth teddy ladies for looking out for her and having a laugh....she had a ball!!!

You would think that after a busy day performing she would put her feet up and relax....no,no,no...Lucinda went on through the night entertaining her hosts with a tinkle on the grand piano and a song or two...

The rest of the crew were just happy to be out and about meeting lots of lovely people...a few found themselves a new home too!!!

On a more serious side....I was truely blown away by the wonderful comments I received about my work.......the smiles and laughter my guys managed to get out of people was just wonderful!!!!

Hopefully I will be back next year as I had a great time with the Perth ladies and learnt heaps...Thankyou girls!!!XXXXXXXXXXXXX

OFF TO THE PERTH TEDDY SHOW!!!

Hi Everyone!!

Well we are just about ready to head for Perth tomorrow to the Perth Teddy and Quilt Show 2010!!!

It has been tricky keeping the bears, chimps and possums calm and quiet I tell You!!!! They are misbehaving something wicked! I had them all set to go for the journey when I turned away for a second and when I looked back Binkle bear was off out and over the back wall, Walter was swinging down over the side and Clarrie had the most mischievous grin on his face as he too got ready to jump out and hide!!! I tell you I was running to catch them all.........

On top of all that I find that Lucinda has taken it upon herself to hop in the car !!!!!!!! I tried to explain that I was not sure that I had room for her to come......I got one of those looks and that was it....I had no choice!!!

Oh well! Should be lots of fun!!

WOW! Boy am I happy to say that Hinkleberry has won the Australasian Creative Design Award of 'Most Innovative Design and Workmanship Excellence' !!!

This competition is a 'hands on' judging competition where each nominated creation is sent in and judged by three independant judges.

I was really stunned....now I am just 'OVER THE MOON'!!!

A huge Thankyou to Sandi Smith for running and co-ordinating this award in conjunction with the Fantasy Ball-Online Show!!! A Fabulous job Sandi!!

A huge Congradulations to Wendy Ching and Linda Benson too!!

I thought all the creations were FANTASTIC and look forward to next years ACDA with a Beatrix Potter theme.....should be FUN!!!

A REALLY MESSY WORK SPACE AND MR FROG SAYS HELLO!!!

Well Mr Frog was hiding in a toy box on the verandah and Elkie was very excited to have him jump out and say HELLO!

On the bear making side of things...I see lots of wonderfully neat workspaces but having been a messy person all my life, I tend to work best in chaos as you can see in this pic of my lounge chair...I sit on the edge of the chair with the light beaming staight down at what ever I am creating and I wear my trusty 1.5 chemist glasses!!!!!

As you can see I get hasseled continually to play...not only Elkie but Dusty our dog as well, hence the ball placed at my feet!

Took Elkie to see Alice in Wonderland!!

What a FABULOUS movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was feeling really guilty about doing so much sewing that I decided I should take Elkie and Mum to see Alice in Wonderland, only the second movie I have been to since Elkie was born!!!!

It was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! What food for thought for wonderful creations in Fantasy land!

I recommend it to anyone with a sense of child and Fun!!!!

All three of us LOVED it, Elkie was a tad scared in a couple of spots but not for long. Johnny Depp was wonderful as the Mad Hatter!

A definite GO SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, once again the house is covered from one end to the other with coloured fabrics ,ribbons, wool, leather and mohair everywhere as I madly try to get my Australian Creative Design Award entry finished.....UTTER CHAOS....but I am having so much fun!!!!
At the same time I have my Fantasy Ball pieces on the go and lots of ideas popping into my head as I go...hoping it all comes together in the end and ...ON TIME!!!!

I just love this illustration 'over weight again'!!!!

Meet our latest family member Bluemoon! She turned up at our house a couple of days before dad passed away!!!!! She is Beautiful!!!!!!!

Dad passed away under one of the biggest blue moons I have ever seen, so we named her Bluemoon, and she has the loveliest nature and has truely adopted us...we are so lucky!!

ELKIE'S FIRST DAY AT KINDY!

Well we made it through the first Kindy Day!

We got there and Elkie was into everything, gluing, painting, checking the toilet out (very importantat this age) and having a great time. Next was story time and I said I would be off now, there was a protest and a tear but I bravely walked out to the car pretending I wasn't worried! I went as far as Mums, about 2 minutes away and was reassured that she would be fine. I knew this really as we had been over all the details of when I would be back to pick her up, so I chatted to Mum for the next 2 and a half hours looking at the clock every 10 mins to see if it was time to pick her up yet!! 15 mins before I was off to make sure I wasn't late, only had a 2 minute drive, and got there with heaps of time to spare and there were most of the other Mums waiting too....one who had arrived late and reaasured me that there were no upset children when she went in all of about 1 minute after I left!!! Elkie was first out and very grown up like did a quick cuddle before very importantly going to find all her paintings and creations she had made that day. Off home and back to normal....I did get some intermittant, lovely cuddles for the next two days!!!! Off to kindy again today, hopefully no tears at all this time and some bearmaking on the books!!

Well here we are with ....yes you read it right...a BLUE bear!!!

He is 11 inches...getting smaller..., and made from a gorgeous royal blue tipped black/brown hand dyed mohair and has beautiful blue eyes. Suede pulled paws and nine way jointed for lots of fun!!!!

His two tone face reminded me of David Bowie so he got named Spider after one of his tours that I was lucky enough to see live, the Glass Spiders tour all those years ago!

Have to wait for morning to get some good pics as cloudy today and night is on it's way!!

A NEW BEAR!

Well here it is my first new design Lombard Bear with no needle felting!!

Meet 'Ferdie', a 13 inch, 9 way jointed swarvo chap straight out of the '20s, ready to head off for a hit of tennis then a martini at the bar with the lads!!

He is made from the most gorgeous mottled plum tipped dark brown hand dyed mohair with deep plum coloured suede pulled paws and beautiful amber glass eyes.

Yes he has a stitched nose!!!! I shaded the nose to match the tones in his fur and gave it a light wax!

Well after reading Linda Bensons of Benson Bears blog this morning, I decided it was time to pull out a few of my old mohairs from years ago and give them a spruce up!!

As you can see there is Lots of those wonderful teddy bear golds that were so popular back then, I think I had one blue and one soft salmon , and that was the extent of my colour range! Things have certainly changed today and now there are SOOO many wonderful mohairs and colours to choose from...YIPPEEEEE!!!

Whilst I was busily doing this, high up in the cork tree were all these gorgeous Galah's, many of them young ones and the din of sound coming from just a dozen or so was AMAZING!!! Hope they don't Poop on my fabric though...hehehe!!!

Well this is it...my first online show...WOW how EXCITING! I will have four new pieces available, one a donation bear for Bobo our sponsored bear. The BE MY VALENTINES SHOW, held by the Lovely SANDI SMITH of BEARLY SANE TEDDIES will run from 8am Saturday the 13th of Februrary till 8 pm the 14th of Februrary Australian Daylight Saving Time.

Burning The Midnight Oil!

Well Dusty has now totally made herself at home the last two nights, quickly hopping on the lounge where Elkie was once she is off to bed, and keeping me company till the early hours as I work on my four pieces for my first online show!!!

I have a feeling there is a little competitivness happening as Dusty worked hard at trying to get me to throw

her toy as soon as I started reading Elkie a night time story and then the minute we got up she was' in like flin' on that spot on the lounge!!!

Well I'm just about finished and having lots of fun with these four pieces...lots of......you guessed it...COLOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it is New Years Eve and We are watching Winnie The Pooh A Very Merry Year With Elkie and Dusty!!!

Both are a little tired but very happy, Dusty has just gone to dream land and Elkie is glued to the Pooh movie....What a lovely New Years Eve!!!!

DUSTY our First ever Dog!!

We now have our first dog...a beautiful Shetland Sheepdog called Dusty! She is just GORGEOUS!! Elkie and Dusty were up at 5.30am playing catch with Dusty's hamburger toy...both are now bombed out!!!

She is really the MOST BEAUTIFUL DOG!!!

We had a wonderful Chrissy and Elkie had a BALL!! As you can see Santa bought her a bike and a SUPERGIRL costume.......it was soooooo CUTE!!

The weather was perfect, the kids played all day and we ate much tooo much and talked into the night with chrissy lights twinkling round the verandah and over a garden chrissy tree!

My First Blog Post--BALLYMENA--My Home!!

Well I thought it was finally time to start my own blog as I love to read others and see what they are up to!

What better way to start off than a short tour of the wonderful historic property we are so fortunate to own set on the banks of the King River in Albany, Western Australia.....PURE PARADISE!!!!!
